As I mentioned earlier this month, February is Cheerios Heart Month. Did you know that eating Cheerios is a great way to lower cholesterol and take care of your heart?? Both original Cheerios cereal and Honey Nut Cheerios cereal contain beta-glucan, a soluble fibre in whole grain oats. This is one specific type of fibre that has been shown in scientific research to help lower cholesterol. This oat fibre acts like a "sponge," soaking up some of the cholesterol in the body so that the body can get rid of it naturally. Lowering cholesterol can lower the risk of clogged arteries and heart disease.
So, something you probably enjoy doing, (eating those delicious Cheerios) is helping your heart! You probably didn't even know it!! My heart healthy tip is to eat fish at least once a week. Fish is rich in omega fatty acids which are great for cardiovascular health.
